The Lousiana Purchase under Jefferson's Presidency.

Under Jefferson's presidency the United States gained so much land. One of the biggest purchases, yet. In 1800 Spain had given Louisiana back to France. Napoleon Bonaparte now offered to sell all of the Louisiana territory to the United States. Congress approved the Louisisana Purchase of April 30, 1803. America had to pay $11.25 million and also agreed to take on French debts of about $3.75 million owed to American citizens. The United States doubled it's size with the purchase.
